Published on 04.03.2025 This week at Trump’s inauguration, millions of people around the world watched as Donald Trump took office surrounded by high ranking officials, politicians and celebrities, with First Lady Melania Trump by his side. However, some onlookers have come up with an interesting conspiracy theory that they saw fit to share with the world. Melania Trump’s image at the inauguration has been the subject of much discussion. Some thought that the returning first lady made a bold fashion choice, while others believed that there were other intentions behind the look. At the inauguration, Melania Trump wore a dark coat with a wide-brimmed hat and black leather gloves. Social media users were quick to give their opinion on what the image could be hinting at, some even comparing her appearance to the «Hamburgler» character from McDonald’s.

While some joked about her outfit, others used it as proof of a conspiracy theory that Melania Trump allegedly has an understudy. Proponents of this theory claim that Melania left her husband, Donald Trump, years ago and is now being replaced by an understudy at public events. Some believe that the appearance of the understudy is related to the attempted assassination attempt on Trump last year, which forced such a measure. Both of these theories have received no evidence. One user wrote in X, «That bolero hat Melania is wearing doesn’t prove much in terms of disproving rumors of her understudy #TrumpInauguration2025.» Another user, who supports the understudy theory due to the assassination attempt, remarked, «Interesting outfit today. That hat is so low over his eyebrows you can barely see his face. Honestly, it looks like a stand-in to me, not the real Melania. I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump knew about the threats and decided not to put her in danger.» Another commenter wrote heatedly, «THIS IS NOT MELANIA! She’s been replaced by a stand-in and they put her in a hat so the media can’t recognize the difference.» Some were wary, as they felt the weather in D.C. didn’t warrant a hat; one user wrote, «Melania the stand-in is the only one wearing a hat in D.C. today.»

However, others dismissed this theory, wondering why the First Lady would miss such a significant event, «Bologna! There’s no understudy for Melania! Why would she miss out on all the fun?» another added, referring to the rumors, «Do you really believe her hat and outfit are hiding an understudy? That’s absurd. The ears are telling the whole truth.» There seems to be a lot of opinions and beliefs surrounding this theory. What do you think about this conspiracy theory?
