Back in 2017, a strange occurrence took place that shook the quiet neighborhood where Karen and Kayla Seals resided. The two sisters had heard what they thought was a distressed dog from next door. What they found instead was an unimaginable sight: a defenseless 8-month-old baby girl, stashed away in a white garbage bag, left unattended and in clear danger.

The baby’s mother, 17-year-old Harriette Hoyt, was subsequently apprehended by the police, who charged her with attempted second-degree murder, a serious felony. It was a disturbing case that sent shockwaves through the community, particularly due to the police’s estimation that the little girl had been left without food or water for over 72 hours. The fact that the baby managed to survive this ordeal was nothing short of miraculous.

Upon discovering the horrifying sight, Karen and Kayla didn’t hesitate to call the emergency services and provide immediate care to the child in their own home. The condition of the infant was truly heartbreaking. She was found dirty, her clothes unwashed, her diaper soiled, and various parts of her body covered in a rash.

“I mean she was hardly breathing honey, her eyes weren’t even open,” Kayla said. “Her eyes weren’t opening, so I cleaned her eyes and spoke to her, ‘Come on baby! Come on baby! Come on sweetness!’ Then she opened right up to me.” It was a divine signal, Kayla believed, that led them to the baby on that fateful Tuesday afternoon. Despite the terrifying circumstances, this story took a positive turn, as the baby girl was expected to fully recover thanks to the Seals sisters’ swift actions.
