Five-year-old Madelyn was found in the forest in October 2020.
The dog was in a terrible state and could hardly walk.
Due to a skin infection, she had completely lost her hair and was covered in itchy sores.
Volunteers from ThisIsHouston, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping animals, took the dog to a partner shelter.
It hurt to even look at Madelyn. Her whole body itched and burned, and her eyes were empty and detached – as if she no longer wanted to live.
According to the shelter staff, this often happens when no one pays attention to the animal for a long time.
“All this little girl has known in her life is pain and suffering. Nobody needed her for five years,” this is how the volunteers described the ward.
During the examination, Madelyn revealed serious health problems: cardiomegaly, heartworms, hookworms, chronic dry eye syndrome and sarcoptic mange.
All this required intensive treatment and careful maintenance.
Fortunately, the dog got into good hands in time, and the arrival at the shelter was perhaps the best event in her sad life.
Volunteers of ThisIsHouston surrounded the new ward with attention, care and love.
They tried to pamper her and show that she had something to fight for.
To keep the dog warm, they put a warm T-shirt on her. The rescuers regularly treated her wounds and gave her therapeutic baths.
Soon, Madeline found a temporary home where she could live in warmth and comfort.
Care and love did their job – the dog blossomed. She began to change both externally and internally.
And although it may take months to fully recover, Madeleine is no longer recognizable.
Temporary owners describe her as a very friendly dog who craves companionship and attention.
When her skin is completely healed and the doctors finish her treatment for heartworms, Madelyn will be sterilized, and then they will find her a permanent home.
Volunteers are sure that they won’t have to wait long, because this dog again believed people and is ready to love, which means that the owner will definitely be found.
