There is no questioning that Rockstar Games is one of the biggest juggernauts in the gaming industry, making some of the most-loved video games of all time.

From the less known titles of L.A. Noire and Max Payne, to the giants that are Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead RedemptionRockstar has certainly pumped out a lot of games over the years.

But gamers are always thinking about what is coming next from the legendary studio, especially considering their latest two releases, Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, are loved so much.

Well, it may not come as much as a surprise, but it has been officially confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 3 will be coming at some point.

The now critically acclaimed series began way back in 2004 with the lesser-known Red Dead Revolver, however, it was in 2010 when the series really made its mark.

That was of course with the original Red Dead Redemption, following the iconic protagonist that was John Marston.

A sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, followed in 2018 — which somehow managed to top the 2010 classic.

Now, we have official confirmation that a third Red Dead Redemption game is on the way, though it is not clear when it will be released.

Speaking with the Jefferies Virtual Global Interactive Entertainment Conference last year (via VGC), Strauss Zelnick — managing director of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive — compared some of his company’s major franchises.

Essentially, Zelnick said they would keep going until gamers got bored of them.

«If it’s really, really great, it will keep going,» the CEO said.

«I don’t know if you saw it, I just saw the new Bond film, that was great. You would like every franchise to be James Bond. «There are precious few entertainment franchises of any sort that fall into that category, but they do exist. And I think GTA is one of them, I think Red Dead is one of them, NBA is obviously one of them because the game will continue to exist.»

However, Zelnick made it pretty clear fans would have to wait for the next instalment.

He added: «It also requires you to be thoughtful and willing to rest the titles, so you have a sense of, ‘wow, this is a rare even’.

«I’ve always said that annualizing non-sports titles runs the risk of burning out the intellectual property, even if it’s good. So we take the time to make something we think is incredibly phenomenal, and we also rest titles intentionally so that there’s pent-up demand for that title, so it’s a special event.»

Before Red Dead Redemption 3 comes out, Rockstar Games is expected to ship Grand Theft Auto 6.

The new Grand Theft Auto game could very well be unplayable for millions of people when it’s finally released.

Yep, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but despite having waited for what feels like an eternity to get their hands on GTA VImany fans won’t get a chance to play it immediately.

Like any instalment of the iconic Rockstar series, as soon as a new addition is announced, rumours start flying about.

It’s a veritable Pandora’s Box of tittle tattle, with fans eager to know what to expect, and trying anything they can to get a sneak peek at it.

And one of the claims doing the rounds at the moment is what console the game will be available to play on when it eventually comes out.

For example, back in 2013, when GTA V hit the shelves, it was for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which were actually nearing the end of their time on this mortal coil.

A year later, it was then made compatible with the PS4 and Xbox One, before moving onto the PC in 2015.

Since then, however, huge leaps and bounds have been made in the world of gaming, with incredibly powerful next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X/S bursting onto the scene.

And it’s been reported that GTA VI may not be made immediately available for older consoles when it comes out.

Experts have speculated that Rockstar’s plan is to release it on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, meaning that the likes of the PS4s of this world will be left in the dust.

Just last month, insider Tom Henderson GTA VI will most likely bypass last-gen consoles in order to focus on improving the game and pushing the boundaries of what can be done.

Writing for Insider Gaming, he said that it’s likely the game might actually not land until 2025.

«According to my own sources, one of the major reasons for such a long-winded ‘delay’ is that GTA 6 will release on current-generation consoles only,» Henderson wrote.

«With the tentative 2024 date being planned as far back as 2021, it was a means of ensuring that GTA 6 would have a sufficient console market to release on.»

Sorry, guys.

Just a few weeks ago a small portion of the new map was leaked online, which sent fans into overdrive.

The new screenshot was posted on the discussion website by user pstuddy, with the headline ‘A tiny portion of the world map’.

There appears to be two new alleged — low resolution — images from GTA VI, the one on the left-hand side of the screenshot, shows an unknown character standing in what looks to be a factory yard of some kind. While on the right-hand side, we see a portion of the apparent map.

UNILAD has contacted Rockstar Games for comment.
