It’s not a surprise that there’s a lot to talk about after the Super Bowl. Aside from the really exciting things that happened on the field, there was also the usual amount of interesting stuff going on off the field.

There was Usher’s halftime show, Taylor Swift was there to watch her boyfriend Travis Kelce play, and, of course, there were lots of trailers for new movies and funny ads.

The much-anticipated Deadpool 3 trailer was in the second group, but it was a Mark Wahlberg spot that really got people talking on the internet.

No one needs to be told that Mark Wahlberg is a man of faith and discipline.

The Hollywood star has talked about how important God is to him in the past, but it hasn’t gone over well in the movie business. Wahlberg said this just last year:

“I don’t want to force my faith on anyone, but I do not deny it.” That’s a sin even worse.

“You know, it’s not popular in my industry, but I cannot deny my faith. It’s important for me to share that with people. But I have friends from all walks of life and all different types of faith and religions, so it’s important to respect and honor them as well.”

Even so, a commercial with Wahlberg that played at last night’s Super Bowl in Nevada made a lot of people confused and even “embarrassed.” The 52-year-old joined hands with Jonathan Roumie from TBN’s “The Chosen” to promote the Catholic app Hallow.

“God, we take this moment just to give You thanks,” Wahlberg began in the commercial.

The big screen in the building then showed a message that said, “For the first time ever, join over 100 million people in prayer during Super Bowl LVIII.”

In a press release ahead of the commercial’s airing, Hallow co-founder and CEO Alex Jones said: “The goal at Hallow has always been to reach out to as many folks as possible, both those who take their faith seriously and especially those who might have fallen away, and invite them deeper into a relationship with God.

“When we learned about the timing of the Big Game this year, we couldn’t have been more excited to work with Mark and Jonathan to use it as an opportunity to invite millions into prayer.”

Reports say that the Hallow app lets you pray while you’re on the go and has been very popular since it came out in 2018.

There were, however, many people who didn’t like the ad or Wahlberg’s part in it.

“Congrats to Mark Wahlberg for making sure that Ben Affleck didn’t embarrass Boston the most this Super Bowl,” one person commented.

A second wrote: “Somehow the Mark Wahlberg as is atop my leaderboard of weirdest Super Bowl commercials so far.”

A third added: “Did I just hear Mark Wahlberg say ‘stay prayed up’?”
