Chunk’s story is one that shines with hope and resilience, showing how compassion can heal even the deepest wounds. At just three months old, Chunk, a young dog, was cruelly abandoned and tied to a tree in the pouring rain.
Left to suffer, her fate changed when a thoughtful Sacramento Fire Department member found her and whisked her away to safety.
Upon her arrival at the fire station, Chunk received immediate care. She was given a warm bath and showered with love by her rescuers.

Soon after, she was diagnosed with severe mange, a skin condition often resulting from neglect. Recognizing she needed specialized care, Chunk was taken to Front Street Animal Shelter for treatment.
During her stay at the shelter and subsequent foster care, Chunk charmed everyone she encountered, including Firefighter Mike Thole and his family.

Although initially uncertain about adopting, the Thole family embraced the opportunity to provide Chunk with a forever home where she would receive the love and security she so desperately needed.
