While walking along the street one afternoon, something unusual caught my attention near the curb.

At first glance, it honestly looked like a snake.

It was thick, coiled tightly, and had a strange textured surface that almost resembled scales. Lying there on the side of the road, it looked completely out of place — heavy, stiff, and oddly symmetrical.

Naturally, I stopped to take a closer look.

The object wasn’t moving, but its shape was convincing enough to make me hesitate before picking it up. From a distance, it had the appearance of some kind of preserved animal or dried-out creature curled into itself.

The material felt solid and weathered, almost like rubber or hardened foam. It had a repeating pattern along the surface that made it look artificial, but still familiar somehow — like something I had seen before without realizing it.

For a while, it remained a mystery.

People suggested everything from an old industrial part to a damaged toy, a piece of machinery, or even a decorative object. The more I looked at it, the harder it became to understand why it had such an unusual shape.

Eventually, after comparing similar finds online, the answer started to make sense.

Because of the textured outer layer, they can easily fool people into thinking they’ve found something alive.

What looked like a mysterious roadside creature turned out to be a simple piece of construction material that had aged into an oddly convincing shape.
